Honestly the Prius will never appeal to me because of its hybrid drivetrain.

Suit yourself. One day when the Prius has 500 lb/ft from zero rpm you'll be rethinking that sentiment.

Imagine if they made a RWD toybaru like platform not the MC platform. It would be awesome.

The current Camry v6 has more power than a lot of old sports cars. High power electric motors have no efficiency loss compared to weaker ones when the same power is demanded of them. So yes, it's possible that once electricity storage problem (i.e. the battery) is "solved" we can have very fast commuter cars.

my point is that...yes its possible, no it doesn't make sense to say that the fuel economy champ will get need more power or torque than it needs to do the job. The v6 Camry is strong, but there is no reason to make it a 500 hp hybrid, even if they could.

I'm thinking well into the future when batteries are cheap and can hold a lot of energy AND the vast majority of our electricity is renewable, if not generated at home.

My point is that hybrids/electrics can be fast. Unlike gas motors, making an electric motor that outputs 500 lb/ft doesn't use any more power at any given speed than a 150 lb/ft motor. My comment was about hating hybrids, not making a debate about sensible future economy cars. Do we need that kind of power from a Prius? No. My point it, there may be a time when the question is 'Why not?'

...that is not sexy at all.

The prius's body will not change much, it can't, or risk raising its drag coefficient.

Ok, when that happens will be the day I buy a prius. Unless there is something with 5000hp like this.

thats not bad. kinda wish they'd stop doing fake grilles...almost as bad as fake hoodscoops. and hybrids deserve no respect from me.

Hybrids can be good though. super cars like the 918 use them.

if keshe develops the plasma battery i might look for some potential but as is it's just ego-stroking for buyers.

electric vehicles have potential, but it would require a total infrastructure rebuild.

yeah. they aren't advanced enough currently. scientist just made a battery that will last long enough for a prius to start actually being ecofriendly, but it's expensive, and not close to being put into a prius. as time goes on this tech will get better

it's not the battery that does the work, that's the generators job, and electric motors don't have to be big to have enough power to shuffle something down the road, but a prius weighs ?3000+lbs?...thats retarded...i got 50mpg on a bmx bike with a 25cc 2 stroke. the fact that these engineers can't pull 50mpg out of a ?$30k? corolla has me very disappointed. hell, vw xl-1 can pull 140mpg without it's electric motor.

I'm saying that the prius needs a battery to store that energy, and most of the time those batteries go in 10 years. probably 13-15 years now. swedish scientist calculated that for a prius to be eco friendly it must pollute less than a standard car. but since the prius needs a battery, the point which it stops polluting more is a longer period than the battery last because of the pollution and fuel required to strip mine, ship metal for batteries, produce battery, and then ship it to america. So the reality is that making a hybrid cause more pollution that just using a normal high mpg car.
